Description :
Glycine occurs as a white, crystalline powder. One gram dissolves in about 4 mL of water. It is very slightly soluble in alcohol and in ether. Its solution is acid to litmus.
Application:
Glycine, also known as aminoacetic acid, is a non-essential amino acid. Glycine is a component amino acid of antioxidant reduced glutathione, which often needs to be supplemented under severe stress. Glycine is also used as a nutritional supplement for chicken feed. It is used in medicine for the treatment of myasthenia gravis and progressive muscle atrophy, hyperacidity, chronic enteritis, and children with hyperproline.
